
Soprano Marlena St. Jean is an emerging artist from Owings, Maryland, with a passion for singing and a good cup of coffee. She obtained her Bachelor's of Music at Temple University and her Master's of Music from the Eastman School of Music.
During her time with Temple Opera Theater, she understudied the roles of Yniold in Debussy's Impressions de Pelleas, Barbarina in Mozart's Le nozze de Figaro, and Lucinda in Nico Muhly's Dark Sisters. She was cast as the Dew Fairy in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel and Dalinda in Handel's Ariodante. At Eastman, Marlena has been seen as Silvio in Twenty Four, or the Cure for Love, and Ida in Johann Strauss's Die Fledermaus.
Marlena has performed as a soloist in Eastman's Bach Cantata Series and their annual Messiah Sing! In competition, Marlena has won 2nd place at the NATS regional competition in Philadelphia. She also won 2nd place in Eastman's 44th annual Jessie Kneisel Lieder Competition.
Marlena has received training from excellent programs such as AIMS in Graz and Operaworks in recent years. She is always looking to learn and grow from the wonderful professionals and peers around her.
Ever the well-rounded performer, Marlena has also studied musical theater and dance, including years of tap, ballet, jazz, and even hip-hop.
Her upcoming operatic engagements include Josephine in H.M.S Pinafore and Kitty Hart in Dead Man Walking at the Seagle Festival.
